Charles who??

Over the past few months, I've watched a young rapper named Charles Hamilton slowly sabotage his young career due to poor decision making and silly behavior that ultimately appears to have alienated him from a good portion of the Hip-Hop community. From blatant beat jacking (c)Blackspade, to bringing personal drama between himself and a young lady out into the public during an impromptu freestyle session culminating in a right cross to his mouth, on camera by said girl, to the unauthorized listing of the late James Yancee's name as executive producer of his new album, he is on the verge of negating any ounce of talent he may possess by his moronic and irresponsible actions.

Let's not forget Charles' use of Sonic the Hedgehog as the basis of his new religious beliefs (which, by the way has enabled him to ink a deal with Sega to promote the character).

Now, in all honesty, I'd never heard of Charles Hamilton until a few months ago when the whole Black Spade fiasco started. Myself being a fan of Spade's work, I paid attention. With all of the negativity that has surrounded CH's name, I never actually listened to his music, so I decided to give it a listen in fairness just to see what the hype was about. Well, I didn't like it, his voice and flow irritated the hell out of me (he does the winy Eminem thing) and frankly he just seems a bit corny. I will acknowledge, however, his creativity and songwriting ability...he's very smart and witty, but even without the drama, my duckets wouldn't be spent on one of his records.

Anyway, with all of this being said, I finally came across a video by Jsmooth, resident blogger, Youtuber and common sense voice of a lost generation. I think he was able to break down, or at least give some insight into Charles' behavior and offered some great advice to Charles and the many people watching things unfold.

At this point, the best thing Mr. Hamilton can do is chill out for a bit, make his music and prosper as best he can. Many fans, friends and affiliates of Dilla have made it clear that the most recent mistake he's made may bring him a bit more than a swollen lip this time. I don't condone any harm coming to him, after all he is still a child in this game full of grown folks, so I sincerely hope he takes some time to reflect on his behavior and the potential he has as a young man with a record deal on a major label to do great things for himself and his family.

With that said, I will do my best to ignore Charles Hamilton and not feed into the hate that has been coming his way anymore. Yes, he is an idiot, but deep down I'm sure he's a good kid who just does not know how to handle himself yet.

Good luck Chuck!

  5. I reckon if this boy was serious about tunes instead of fame, he would have dedicated his album to Dilla, instead of lying about affiliation.

I never heard of him before, you are right about him being witty, but he just comes across as too hungry for glory and cash.
Like some kind of Kanye/Pharell hybrid without the talent.
Maybe he will get into his own stride as he matures, I doubt it, but maybe.

That girl can give a mean right hook though, I do not think I could throw a punch like that so casual, I would would have to be in Hulk mode before I would want to hurt somebody.
