On December 12th, 9th Wonder hosted the Pete Rock and DJ Premier Homage party to commemorate two members of the small group of the most influential hip hop producers in my opinion. Both producers introduced me to the true art of sampling as a teenager in Brooklyn and helped open my ears to so many classic records and albums. It was amazing seeing both producers perched on opposite sides of the stage as live band The Remix Project replayed classics from both producers while some of North Carolina's finest MC's, including Skyzoo, Edgar Allen Flow and Rhapsody, channeled artists like B.I.G, Nas, Jeru the Damaja, etc lyrically. It felt good seeing 30-something fans like myself posted up next to teenagers and being able to find common ground musically. Believe it or not, this is not easy to come by in this day and age. Props to 9th Wonder for putting this amazing show together.
