Kanye West - Power, dir Maro Brambilla
Ok, I have to admit that it took me a while to actually give a damn about this new Kanye release. Lately, well let's just say I haven't been impressed by his latest sonic forays, minus a few jewels here and there. Frankly, I miss the hungry Kanye West, you know, that guy who once rapped an entire song through a jaw wired shut due to a near fatal car accident? Or perhaps the guy that helped inspire me to start digging through my old collection of vintage soul classics again because of his great ear for samples...
Anyway, I must say I am very impressed with this lead song from his new album, "Power". Even more impressive is the imagery (thanks to the genius of Marco Brambilla) used in the video. It does, in fact, exude a sense of power that is complemented by the marching cadence of the song. For my studious art lovers out there, how many references to classic pieces can you find??

I won't lie, this is visually stimulating & very reminiscent of the movie "300"but Im done worth KW. WHen he slipped into being more of an ass than an artist, he lost a lot of lustre in my eye.

ReplyDeleteLet's not give up on him just yet. He may be been going through somethings, and just didn't know how to handle them. He has a lot offer still, and this body of work seems to prove it...well at least this sample of "Power" seems to prove. And I'm sure the KW espressed his vision for the creation of this video as well. Give him a chance, let's not write him off.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Tonia. I know I'm being a little hard on the brother, lol. I do admire how far he has come in the music industry as well as his willingness to challenge us musically. I just wish he were a bit more humble. At the same time, he is what we need, balance. He is becoming the Ali of music, lol. Thanks for stopping by!
